Take a sad song, and make it better

Today is my sister Jenny's birthday. I recently read a letter from her. She was at the steps of Sacre Coeur, listening to Beatles songs and singing along. She said it was so beautiful, she and her friends had to jump up and down. They had so much fun that they missed their train and spent the night in Clara's flat in Paris!

Today, I'll look for something beautiful, and I'll sing a Beatles song to Maxito and Yeni.

xoxo

Happy belated birthday, Jenny. Do you think she can read blog comments from her perch, wherever that may be? I'd like to think so. It's amazing how alive she still is in memory. I'll see something, or hear a song, or hear someone say something, and I immediately have the punchline to a joke or laugh that we shared. It's bittersweet to be the only one laughing, just half of the equation that made it so funny the first time. But I am grateful for the gift of her friendship, and I ache to think how much deeper the loss has been for you.

Oh, Clarabellaluna, thank you for your kind words. I think it was just a week ago that I said to Steve, "I'm going to the store. Want to come with?" and I made that Clara face! it came back to me in a flash, even though I've lost its original reference point.

By the way, I touched the southern part of Maine on my vacation (maybe you live near there?) and found it so beautiful. I could see you living there and loving it. I tried not to act too "New Jersey" while visiting!

Serena-
I have been thinking about Jenny a lot lately....I google her from time to time and found this tonight. I read everything you had relating to Jenny and you made me smile, laugh, and cry...but most of all, you made me feel close to her one more time. Thank you so much for that. Tracy Balducci Rivas

Tracy, que milagro! I was just thinking of you and wondering how you are. I'm so glad you checked in and posted here. I recently read Jenny's piece "Harriet the Big Red Spy Notes" about your kidnapping of the stuffed tiger. Or did she kidnap the tiger?

Oh my God!! I had totally forgotten about that. I was the kidnapper for sure. If I recall, it turned into a back and forth for awhile. I am so happy that you are living out your dreams in Mexico. My daughter starts kindergarten in two weeks. The time really flies. I really wish she could have experienced a bit of Jenny wisdom and stories. She reminds me of Jenny in the fact that she throws herself into listening to stories. She would have been a perfect audience for Jenny. Take care and know that I think about you guys often. Love, Tracy
